Seems like I have run inot a lot of things before I have not dealt with in 20 plus years in the phone biz and here is another one. I have never intalled a PRI in a switch. I have a friend who is the telecom guy at a University and they have an EL that is maxed out with bays although some bays are across campus and running on fiber that only have a couple of cards each in them. I have read all the documentation but it seems a little vague on this. When you program a PRI I understand that you have to program it in a bay, etc. but what I am trying to descern is if that PRI decreases your bay capacity - in other words does it take up a whole bay? It seems that it wouldn't from what I can read (besides it would seem counter productive), but I can't say for sure. Can someone enlighten me on this procedure please. Thanks

When you program a PRI card, it is it's own bay. That bay can only handle the 2 circuits on the PRI card. Give me a call if you'd like a more detailed explanation, but if you're friend has an EL, and already has 7 bays programed, he's out of luck, unless he can somehow consolidate cards to free up one bay/fiber connection!! Contact me anytime!!
