We have an SX-200 system and the device is a Mitel 420 phone. The previous technician had the Mitel support person setup one of the phones with a "Make Busy" button so that all calls would be immediately forwarded to an outside answering service. When the person returned and hit the button again, all calls could be answered locally. Well there was no documentation left and I can't find the manual. How do I setup a "Make busy" button so that I can do this with another employee?

Could I also program the SX-200 to always forward all busy or no answered calls for this extension to an outside line? That way, if the person forgets to hit the button to forward all calls, the calls would never be missed by anyone. How do I do that?
Thanks!
Timcin

What type of SX200 do you have ? Anyway - could be a call forward toggle key or a DND key which could then cause calls to be forwarded. Again the type of SX200 (Digital, Light, EL, ICP) would be helpful

As Dane mentioned, just because the customer called it a 'make busy' key, doesn't necessarily mean that was the Mitel feature they were using.
It was probably a call fwd always toggle, that call forwarded the prime to an external number.

Okay you should be able to go into form 9 and find the set - expand the set and find an available button - set it to feature and then to forward call always and forward that to a speed dial key or a system speed dial for the external number. Then you can use another button for forward call busy no answer or just no answer

Thanks Dane,

I tried going into Form 9 and setting one of the speed keys to feature but after it's programmed and you hit the key, it automatically calls the number. That's not what I want.

Ok, how about a way to do this without programming the superset device and having the phone system do it automatically? This way, it avoids the problem of the person remembering to hit the key on the phone. I setup an abbreviated dial entry in the system, i.e. 860, and tried to set it up via the console to forward both internal and external calls when busy or there is no answer but the console won't accept 860.
What do I need to do to get this to work so that any call that is missed, not answered, or hits a busy signal automatically forwards to the long distance number?

Did you put in the Feature Access Code for abbreviated dialing before 860?

Yes, our feature code is 8 so I put in 8860 when I hit the key, it immediately dialed the number.

I'm trying to set this up for the CEO and I'd rather make this fool proof. If he forgets to hit the make busy button, his calls will never get transferred and he won't like that either.

Can't this be done without using keys on the 420 phone?

I foresee a major problem here. Think about what happens to the call when the boss doesn't answer his cell-phone. Is his cell forwarded to cell VM or back to the office vm, or...? Will he check VM religeously, OR BLAME YOU FOR MISSED CALLS, when he inadvertently/accidentally/on-purpose deletes his VM. Or forgets his pin code, or, or, or. John C.

The only major problem will be if I can't get this to work. Our company merged with the other company and now we have their CEO in charge. He only comes to our offices 1 or 2 times a week and he wants to have all his calls that he doesn't answer at our local office to be forwarded automatically to his main office 40 miles away. That is where his Administrative Assistant will answer his calls. The Administrative Assistant here at our office just got laid off this past Tuesday so there's no one here to answer his calls. If the Administrative Assistant at the main office doesn't answer, the calls go to HIS voice mail at the main company. This is what he wants, not what I want.
How can I do this automatically?
