Any users of the Harris Test Set TS25D. I am needing to buy a new butt set and one with caller id would come in handy on troubleshooting at time. But is this a rugged buttset? Is it a good buttset? It doesnt look to be from pics. Right off it doesnt look like it has a belt clip wich is a big minus.I carry a ts22a harris now. Which is great and handles alot of abuseand does the job. But i kinda like the caller id on the ts25d but do not want to have to carry around a 2nd test set just for caller id issues. I lug enough stuff around daily to do my job, i dont need more. Is this good enough for my only butt set? Pros and cons. Any prefrences out there?

There are a lot of Caller ID boxes and some of them are very small. The TS22A is a really good set and has been for about 20 years. The outside housing has changed a tiny bit to make it smoother, but they started building them before the designation IT was formed. I carry a $10 CID box for the times I need one.

I would call Teledynamics at 800-847-5629 and ask for an interconnect application form. They don't sell to end users so you can mark up an item and not have them go to the web site and compare. They have lots of phone items but are not a Graybar.

I needed a new butt-set. Was going to go with the Ts22 (old reliable). Decided to splurge. Because of the digital age I went with the TS42. Test for line voltage, and if too high, will send an alarm.

For CID, I carry a radio shack $10 phone that has a caller ID display.

I dont like the 25D

when the battery dies the set is dead , not like the 22a where you still have basic functions . no battery no DT

its getiing late you need to verify one line you grab the buttset no display+ no buttset mad

I find it hard to dial without it double dialing .

I wouldnt buy another or recommend it .

I would go with what the rabbit said just pick up a cheap caller ID box if you don't want to spend a ton of dough for a new one right now and continue to research what you really need and or want then buy one. Ok I re-read this.....man I sound like my Dad.

As long as you look at the battery indicator occasionally, you won't have to worry about a dead battery. I agree, not waterproof and not quite as rugged, but if you get the kit that comes with pouch & headset that helps and can be clipped to whatever.

www.datacomtools.com has the kit for $205. Cheaper than most Harris, but with the most features.

battery indictor ...one more thing to look at .

it should be able to function as a basic phone off line voltage weather the batery is there or not

when all I want to do is verify DT or ID a line it ought to have basic functionality no matter what .

the pouch is nice .

another issue is the cord tangles , you cant wrap it the way you do a normal buttset and I havent found a good way to store it without the cord getting tangled

I use the 25D and love it. Yes, it requires a battery to function, but so does my toner, tracker, traditional multimeter, cordless drill, etc - so I just keep spares. I use it as a second toner in a pinch and love the basic voltage meter - easily lets you see if you're on a digital circuit. Caller ID and DTMF digit grabber are handy.
