We had Major PRI'S failure today due to a PS failure on a DSU Node . We are suppose to have secondary rerouting to alternitive PRI'S if SBC/ATT sees that our PRI'S fail to respond . Can anyone tell me why the AT&T secondary reroute would not work until I disconnected the rj45 from each PRI interface module ?

What was your failure? If a T-1 signal was still present it wouldn't switch. That's what it sounds like to me, you unplug, kill the signal it switches, but didn't on it's own. That sounds like your PRI failed but not the T-1. That's just a guess as to what might have happened.

The only protection I ever worked on was the protection switches on the T-1. That's what made me say if they didn't switch until you unplugged from the jack it sounded like the T-1 signal was still there. I've never heard of channel protection. Of course if all you lost was the D channel that would affect how every many T-1's it controlled. That's why I asked what failed.

Yep justbill , you are correct the failure point could determine if the PRI alt rerouted or not . That was a pertinent question . It makes one wonder about the redundancy SBC/AT&T expounds !

Darrell, if your saying they couldn't determine if the T-1 was on the primary or protection route that's not the case. They can see which leg is working. If your saying T-1 was up and PRI channels were down that's another issue.

My question was , if sbc was not able to hand off a DID call to 916-xxx-xxxx why did they not reroute the call to the 2nd alt pri's instead of the callers hearing an OOS recording ? When I unplugged the cables the calls did start to reroute . There is no way with the bad power supply in the node that any call processing could of taken place . It is my fault for not making my post clear and to the point .
