Hi all, I am facing a scenerio like this.
Currently, my working company have 6 lines to Nortel MICS for incoming and outgoing
A company offers us a unlimited calling package, 4 lines , 6 lines , 8 lines and so on.
Instead of subscribing to the 6 lines package , we plan to subscribe to 4 lines package and remains 2 original lines (because the chances that we use the 5th and 6th line is low)
In this case ,we need to program the PBX to make sure the outgoing calls are going through the 4 lines as priority(important), at the same time , we need to make sure incoming call will choose the 2 lines as priority (less important).
In the original settings, the 6 lines are programmed in the same pool.
I have thought of 2 methods to program it but not sure whether it can be done or not. I hope anybody can give me some advice or suggestion
Method 1 ========= 1. Program the 6 lines in the same pool but with that 4 lines programmed as 1st, 2nd ,3rd and 4th of sequence of pooling.
My question is , how the MICS do the pooling , randomly or follows the line sequence ?
Method 2 ========= 1. Program the 4 lines in Pool A , and 2 lines in Pool B. 2. Pool B as incoming call target line , Pool A as outgoing call 3. When both lines in Pool B are busy , the call should be route to Pool A (can it be done ?)
For outgoing call , the users will be given the access code for Pool A , only important personel are give the access code for Pool B.
I am not sure whether it can be done , any comment and advice or suggest are welcomed.
Thanks.

Method 1 will work just fine, but the MICS will select lines from the highest ports first. Just make sure you connect the 4 new lines as lines 3-6 or in other words L03, L04, L25, L26.

Or as L03, L04, L31, L32 Depending on s/w level.

Sorry , 1 more question .
If I configure the cheaper 4 lines as L03, L04, L25 and L26 but the incoming primary line I want to use the other 2 lines , is it possible ?

Which set of lines is primary incoming is between you and your provider... not a system issue.
