Well, after talking to the original dealer that the keycodes are from - they are willing to help, BUT with these restrictions:

1. Sell me a new keycode for $XXX.XX
- or -
2. Give the dealer an old defective MICS to prove to Nortel that this is legitimate business.

The dealer also said that NT will charge him an hourly rate to look into this. He said, he needs $X,XXX.XX and we'll get back whatever it is that NT doesn't bill him for. YES YOU ARE READING THAT RIGHT $X,XXX.XX

The original dealer said, that they could've fixed the problem, if they had known about the problem back in May. The guy at the dealer is telling me that Nortel changed thier policy on regenerating keycodes as of June or July. According to this guy, Nortel thinks EVERYONE is out to try to scam them out of keycodes.

I've heard the keycodes can be regenerated and it's not that big of a deal. This would be like paying for Microsoft WIndows and not being able to load it on my new computer that I just purchased - COME ON - BILL ALLOWS IT!!!

By-the-way, I haven't spent any company time on this project. My boss isn't spending a dime to save a buck. I'm using my personal time to help KEEP MY JOB because times are tough in Michigan. I'm almost ready to spend the $XXX of personal money just to get this over with. I'm not about to hand over any funds knowing that this can or could be resolved.

Thanks for everyones help

The system ID should not have changed with the upgrade, unless you changed the cabinet. If that was the case, then the new system ID should have been used. there are time when key codes just won't work. I just had a brand new out of the box R7 that wouldn't take key codes, and we generated two sets for it. Replaced the cabinet and viola! Glad I was just the sub on this one and not the seller.

This is how the whole thing went down one more time. I tried to upgrade to 7.0 from 4.1. That was my first mistake. The second mistake was, my boss ordered key codes for the old 4.1 system ID trying to help out. I always get key codes generated for the system ID that is the final upgraded software release if a system does not have PRI when upgrading. This way, I don't have to worry about upgrade tools and losing something in transfer. It has always worked, until my boss decided he was trying to help.

Well, the 4.1 to 7.0 didn't work. I had to upgrade to 6.1 first and then go on to 7.0 The phones just kept flashing and flashing.

I finally got the cabinet upgraded to 7.0 and went to put the keycodes in and it said, INVALID KEYCODE. So, I checked the system ID and it changed.

I've been talking to everyone I know to try to get this resolved. I still haven't got a definitive, in stone, it can't be done. I was told by a Nortel guru that it can be regenerated for me at no cost, it's just a simple regeneration, but I haven't had any luck.

I was told that I need to send a defective cabinet back to Nortel and send $X,XXX.XX for Nortel to investigate it and whatever money is left over we get back. I think these guys are scamming me.

I just want my keycodes regenerated so I can move on from this.

Thanks for the help you guys - I'm done posting and replying to messages about this subject.

I told my boss, he'll have to make the call on this one.
