I run into this rarely, but today, I just went on a call about it on one extension (We have had problems with this on three seperate occasions over the last 3 or so years).

After changing out the extensions (this was an Intertel Axxess system), handsets, cords, adding Ferrite Cores, etc. I finally found that the signal went away when you stood in front of the desk and was strongest behind the desk.

Moving the keyset and the cords made it go away (I left the Ferrite cores on though).

Any other suggestions on this sort of problem? I would appreciate other perspectives (the most frustrating times is when you drive an hour to troubleshoot such a problem, and when you arrive...it happens to be one of those times you don't have a problem!)

An unbalanced pair, or unterminated pair will often cause this, I have never had it where simply moving the phone has fixed it for me though.

Everything is run Cat5e, everything is terminated.

I had tried moving the signal to different pairs.

What else can be tried to fix this sort of thing?

How would go about grounding the unused pairs? Assuming all pairs are terminated to a 66-block at the near end of the run, would you punch down a wire to each unused pair and then connect them all to a good ground?

if it's only on 1 phone, try adding some cable length to it at the mdf.

I had a simular problem years ago on a TIE system
was playing music on handsfree...system located about 1/4 mile from most of the broadcasting stations in philly.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel..

We had the same problem a few years ago on a install at a radio station site. The system was a Lucent/Avaya Partner ACS R.5. So we where able to use the Lucent Z300a EMI filters.
We had to put one on the CO lines before the control unit. Then on a few extensions we had to put one between the control unit and the phone.

But the Z300a is for analog only.
