We signed on with a new carrier and we are getting a bunch of static on our BCM400. They say it might be the crossover cable going from the BCM400 to their Cisco IAD2400. It looks just like an RJ45 Cat 5/5e/6 cable to me, but I believe the correct name is an RJ48C crossover.

Been trying to find this crossover cable online but the only thing I came across is a 15 foot one for about $50. From everything I read it appear that this is just a std RJ45 cable with pins 1 2 4 5 wired up differently so I don't want to pay $50 for a cable that normally costs about $5 as an RJ45.

Where can I get this cable and not get ripped off.

Don't know where you can get 1.5 to 3 footer sitting on a shelf. Every installation we custom make our own. Cable, 2 mod plugs and a tool.

You are correct. RJ48 is proper terminology. I doubt that what they are telling you is true. Digital circuits either work or they don't. It is all or nothing. If the service is working but there is static, I assure you that it's not due to the cable's configuration.

Yes, That is exactly what I thought as well. But we do get static on a lot of calls, but not all.

I am going to start to see if it is a particular channel on the PRI, but I don't know why it would be that.

What is the easiest way to check each line on the PRI? Is there a feature code where I can pick up line061, 062, 063, etc one at a time to check?

As ED said, your cable shouldn't give you static.
Maybe a dropped call, but not static.
Do you have a crimp tool??
Take a normal patch cable.
Cut off one end.
Switch the orange and blue pairs and re-crimp.

Wild shot - reseat the DMT module??
- or move it to another slot?

About selecting each channel. Maybe someone else knows a better way, but you can DE-Provision the channels all but one. Takes a bit to go through them all.

OR make a test call. Put on hold then make another test call. Put on hold.

I think I will just grab a 7310 and program the buttons for each line. I can only do 9 or 10 at a time, but I only use a max of 12 anyway so that won't be that big a deal.

On the cable, just to be sure I have it straight, do I swap the blue and orage pairs by:

1. Switch the blue and blue/white set with the orange and orange/white set.

2. Switch the blue with the blue/white and the orange with the orange/white

Swap Pairs.

wh/grn.......wh/grn
blu/wh.......org/wh
wh/blu.......wh/org
grn/wh.......grn/wh
wh/brn.......wh/brn
brn/wh.......brn/wh

PLEASE REMEMBER.

I have seen some smartjacks wired that need a crossover.
I have seen some other smartjacks that need a straight-through cable.

You can't program the PRI trunks on a key, only analog trunks. You can set several intercom keys on the 7310 and then program the main target line to appear & ring and for multiple appearances on that set.
