I, nor have any of my customers ever collected a dime from them. Their paperwork required reports from the fire marshal as to the cause for failure, proof of an actual lighning strike, certification from the manufacturer that the phone system failed due to surges, proof that the customer's insurance company would not cover it, megger tests on ground connections, etc. The list goes on.

All of this while the customer is without a phone system. The only claim that I ever filed resulted in a free replacement protector, upon my shipping the failed unit to them at my expense. Even that took several weeks to receive.

These warranties are a toothless marketing tool. Most property insurance companies bite the bullet on lightning strikes anyway. Electric utilities accept responsibility for major malfunctions too.

I would really enjoy hearing from anyone who has actually recovered on a $50,000.00 connected equipment warranty.

It seems that most of these lightning protection manufacturers run with the same "type" of warranty.

Circa and Porta Systems both will replace anything damaged in the event of a lightly strike if and only if they can find some fault of the manufacturers. They run tests on all the materials and there is a lot of paper work involved, as stated above.

It sounds like it is easy for them to put fault on the end-users or installers themselves.

The actual products have 1-years warranties on them though.

I sell a ton of Circa and Porta. Not many people I know use ITW for lightning protection, mostly power strips and the like.

Like Ed, all I've got knowledge of is replacement of the device itself. Ditek and Sycom replace any failed device and pay the return shipping, no ?'s asked, in my experience. I guess that's better than a stick in the eye! John C.
