Hello everyone!
Has anyone ever heard of a Meridian system being too old to have the ability to have an external music on hold source connected to it?

The Nortel Meridian. I am working on locating the version or release # with my client. I'm working with them for their MOH and a local tech went out to install the equipment but said the system would not take the programming to turn the internal beeps off. Other programming worked. The cable was punched down and it still wouldn't work, and we were told the system was too old for MOH and they would need to buy another. I've worked with a ton of these systems before but never had a problem with MOH capabilities.
Many thanks!

MUS (Package #44) is for music. Check your boot media and find out if that package is listed.
There is EMUS (Package #119), but I'm pretty sure that requires MUS to be installed with it.
What kind of trunk card are you connecting your MOH unit to?

Are you sure this isn't an older Nortel Meridian MICS or CICS, or 8x24? Or is this a Nortel Meridian Option series? The easiest way to tell is have the customer look on the bottom of the telephone and get the model number from the phone. That will tell us the actual series of the system.

MOH does not get connected to a trunk card.

Thanks Z-man! On the bottom of their desk phone it has NTB827JAAAM and A0993449. They also said it had SNTQ04048046 and said 2005/2006 Platinum Nortel Networks.
I am not sure of the specific Meridian series. They said the actual system just says Meridian, but they are going to send me a photo of the actual system so I can take a look.
Thank you so much for your responses!

That a "T" series phone, used on Norstar systems (3x8, 6x16, 8x24, CICS, MICS, BCM) and to answer the original question, No it's not too old.
Suggest you send a tech that knows what he's/she's doing.

MOH does not get connected to a trunk card. The poster assumed it was a Merdian Option PBX since it was referred to as a Nortel Meridian instead of a Norstar. THe Merdian PBXs did use a trunk card for MOH. The Norstar is not as others have said too old...the installing tech was too green on the product line to implement MOH changes.

Thank you for clarifying that...you are correct that when I read Meridian, I think of the SL1 or Option Series. To me, a Norstar is just that: a Norstar. I apologize if I caused any confusion for the original poster. In any case, I haven't seen a Norstar, either, that couldn't support MOH.
