I'm new to this site and have found the knowledge of the members and the information on the forum great... so I thought I'd share my problem to see if anyone has some suggestions.

I have a TVP100 and am having problems getting the SMDR log to display in HyperTerminal. I did have it working once as a test 2 years ago with the same laptop, same null modem cable hooked to a 25 pin to 9 pin null modem adaptor etc but now no dice.

The null modem cable and adaptor hooked to my laptops serial port works fine to operate my Voicemail Master with no apparent issues so it doesn't appear that the cable is at issue? (...unfortunately VMM doesn't do SMDR logs)

I have tried a 2nd "newer" computer and even switched the rotary switch in the TVP100 to "1" and rebooted to see if HyperTerminal worked in programming mode (...trying to see if the problem was specifically HyperTerminal) but that seemed to work fine also, I had good 2-way communication with the unit.

I have the comm port settings in HyperTerminal at 9600-8-N-1, with ANSI emulation and even confirmed the TVP100 internally settings and switched the default setting of 9600-8-"Mark"-1 to 9600-8-"None"-1 just to match the recommended HyperTerminal settings.

Simply plugging in the cable into the unit doesn't seem to trigger an output that HyperTerminal picks up (as it would with a printer)?

With either laptop I tried I can only get an output with HyperTerminal by rebooting the TPV100. With the older laptop (Win98) I get a long series of odd symbols as it boots, with the newer computer (Win200NT) all that shows is a ">"

Sorry for the long-winded story but I've tried just about everything I can think of and still no SMDR log??

If anyone has any suggestions or tests I should run I'd certainly appreciate the input.

I might not understand your situation completely, but SMDR information isn't going to come out of the serial port on the TVP100. That's the voice mail system. You need to be connected to the serial port on the phone system in order to capture SMDR. Under normal operation, the voice mail system isn't going to output anything to the terminal unless you request it.

Thanks for the speedy reply Ed and advice.

I did ask the tech guy at the installation company last week that I was to be plugging into the TVP100 and he said "yup" but apparently what does he know...lol.

I just tried plugging my null modem cable into the TD816 (...who know maybe that's where I had it plugged in 2 years ago, thought it was the TVP100 but I can't remmeber) anyways...nothing! No output at all - hyperterminal up and running, connected and capturing on.

I even rebooted the 816 while connected but nadda, then switched to the other laptop and connected the cable again to the 816...nope.

Go into field 800 on the TD816 and make sure it's set to "ALL".
Also check 806 & 807 and make sure they match your RS232 parameters.

Thanks MrG. I checked the field 800 last night and both incoming and outgoing were all on. I also reset the 806 from "default" which has 9600-8-"Mark"-1 to 9600-8-"None"-1 so as to match the Hyperterminal just in case that would work. So I think those settings are fine.

You might want to tinker with the flow control settings in HyperTerminal. I seem to recall that the cable connection (pinout arrangement) is a bit picky for Panasonic, as in just about all pins have to be wired correctly. I don't believe that standard stock cables will work. Are you sure that you have the same cable from two years ago?

I can get a known working pinout for you to make a cable, but I won't be able to post it until tonight. I have it working fine on my KX-TD1232 at home so I will be happy to check it out for you.

9600,8,N,1 with no flow control and do not use auto detect.
Also do not hit enter as it sees this as trying to enter the programming mode.
If the above settings are correct you may want to reset the system with hyperterm connected and running.
