Is it possible? I have an anal retentive, stubborn customer who is setting up an ACD and is SHOCKED that I won't be able to make the headset ring without the phone ringing - she's sure it'll be too distracting having all of 8 phones ringing in a smallish area...
The system is a Toshiba, but I'd like reassurance that it isn't possible with ANY phone system.
I'm aware of the Plantronics CS55 & lifter, but it still requires the phone to be ringing to signal the mic pickup...

I know on the Nortel Norstar, I can turn the ring volumn down on the phone to a bare minimum and the CS55, 70 etc will work. Unknown about Toshiba.

The Panasonic TDA systems have the ability to have a call transferred directly to an 'open' headset with no ring and just an 'announcement'. And if the call provides a disconnect signal to the phone system when the caller hangs up, the headset will go back to an idle/open condition, ready to receive another call. Mixed reviews on this feature. Neat, but intrusive. The call comes in whether you are ready or not. Forgot to log out before you went to the bathroom? Bet you'll only forget once! John C. Yeah, I can turn the volume down all the way as well, but it isn't "quiet enough!"
I can also provide a ziptone to the headset thru the ACD but only if it's set to send the call thru - autoanswer...

Oh well, you've got the feature too, huh. Thought, is the lifter actually picking up the magnetic field rather than the noise of the speaker? If anyone can confirm that, remove the speaker cone and leave the magnet and voice coil. What a hassle, never mind the warranty void! smile frown John C. (Not Garand)
