I'm a summer intern with a company and they put me in charge of setting up a call forwarding system from his office to a cordless phone on another line. They are using VB 44223 22 key phones, have a DBS 824 system, and a regular non programmable cordless phone.

The only problem is when I plug in the cordless phone the system doesn't read it and there is no dial tone. Is there anything I can do to make the phone be recognized as an extension?

Also is there anyway to program two of the keys on the VB 44223s to have it go in and out of call forwarding mode?

Be very careful were you plug things in, you are clearly not sure off. Hopefully Rich will chime in for you.....
In the mean time if I were you I'd go to the phone room and get the actual model number off the system.

The cordless has to have an adapter installed at the KSU to convert digital to analog. Without that adapter, there is no way to make a cordless phone work.

Yes, you can program a key for call forwarding to any blank key on the telephone.

We have a KSU its a VB 42050. So I just find an adapter and plug it in?

Do you what I need to insert to program a key for the call forwarding of the line?

Sorry I am tech savvy, just not with phone systems. Thanks for the help.

A So you have a DBS 824 do you have the manuals ???

Before you go crazy you have to figure out if there is a SLTA(VB-43709) is near the system

We do have the manuals for the phone but not the DBS 824. I checked and yes we do have a SLTA(VB-43709) near the system. I not going crazy yet, as my boss isn't pressuring me too much on the project.

Ok I downloaded the manuals, but the system has already been installed and everything works fine. I am just trying to add the cordless phone to an open line but it is not registering. I don't know how I should go about the installation of this new phone. I would've thought that it would just plug in and work as the other VB 44223 that we had on the line before he wanted to switch it to the cordless worked fine.

You can only do this if you have the tools. The SLT adapter, the manual, a toner, a test set, crimpers, modular plugs, and jumper wire. Then you get into the programming and there are several fields that need to be modified.

That being said, unless you have all of the things listed above, plus the knowledge in order to put it all in place and make it work, it may not be something that you want to try and do. Panasonic never made these systems to be installed or serviced by anyone other than a Panasonic trained installer.

If you have a Panasonic service company in your area, it may be wise to try and forge a relationship with them to handle the hardwire and programming for your system. You can always try it yourself, but most of the time it is less expensive in the long run it hire it out to a professional. I know when ever I follow someone that has been monkeying around in the programming it takes longer to undo the mess that was made than it would have been for me to just do it in the first place.

If you do have the tools, and would like to try it yourself, send me a PM and I will see if I can work with you. There will be a fee for this type of remote assistance should you decide that you need it.
