I've got a customer that has a Telrad 400 with the IVM Voicemail and it currently has 8 ports, they would like to increase it to 12. The IVM is running ver. 4.00K, from what I've been able to gather it looks like I need another MIM Card on the OCD and another card in thae actual IVM PC. Are these the only (2) hardware parts that I will need or is there more? If more information is needed about this particular setup please let me know, I tried to take as many notes as possible regarding installed equipment.

To be honest if you have a customer ready to do a upgrade why do it with 10 year old parts? Is it worth the risk? Maybe a look at a new IPeX processor with on board EmaGen voicemail would be in order. No need for OCD/mim anymore and all of the phones, cards and cabnets will still function but with many new features. Also the IPeX replacing the MPD/Memory cartridge allows for easy to upload non chip upgrades.
To answer you question you will need a 2nd OCD for data and a MIM for the voice channels, a full not expansion AVC card for the voicemail and a memory expansion board if in the orginal Telrad supplied PC. Good luck finding that.

I hear what your saying about the upgrade and agree with you 100% but getting the customer to agree to it maybe a different story. Maybe if I tell them that these parts, especially the memory expansion board, are difficult to find due to the age of the equipment I'll be able to talk them into it. But 1st, so that I can talk to them a little more intelligently about the upgrade they asking for; even though they have an available slot on the existing OCD for a MIM, they are still going to need a 2nd OCD for data and cannot utilize the existing data from the other card, correct? And then there is going to be the issue of finding the memory expansion card, is there a PC limitation on this, as far as whether the card can even be installed into it? This is an original Telrad IVM PC, by the way. Thanks for your help.

You need the 2nd OCD for the data connection (RS232 to share the load, other wise you will have a issue with delay. That is also why you need the full AVC card not just a expansion card. The full card has a data and voice connection. Truly the sad part of this is Telrad had a buy back special and a IPeX upgrade special for the end of the year, about a 4k discount, but the orders had to be placed by the 27th at noon.

Push the Ipex. Your just looking at another nightmare down the road.
If your in the Ipex you will be up to date with the newest system features and software.
Say he wants VOIP or Unifed MSGing and many more. How do you tell him I have to replace the VM after he just upgraded it. Tell him the IPEX is the UPGRADE.

Upgrading to the new Ipex would be upgrading the actual Telrad 400 cabinets correct? Or could the cabinets and cards still be used?

The cabinets and cards will work just fine. You may need a chip upgrade on some of the cards but all will work. The IPeX replaces the MPD/memory cartridge, voicemail PC and the OCD/MIM card.

This is one of the many reasons Telrad is so great. No need to replace much. Your customers investment is safe when they buy a Telrad System. I have customers with old Telrad analog set and new IP phones.

I can supply an old 4 port AVC card! You'll also need a connection strap to link the 3rd board to the other 2. I have one but they are rarer than rocking horse dung. Upgrading is by far the best bet if they'll swallow the cost. Andy
