Hello... I have read the posts regarding the difficulty in finding a DSS unit for this system.

We currently have one (83-051-0400/4), but it looks like a couple of diodes fried.

Can anyone tell me if another model will work with this system (such as the 83-051-450)? Renting is not really an option, we use it often for setting day alert. Or... if there is a code to set the day alert from station 20... or if anyone knows the value of the diodes (the two on the board in the bottom of the base vertical to each other)?

Thank you all.. appreciate your being here!

Harry

I don't know product numbers

I'm confussed. The 8/16 is an analog system. That would be station 10 sets. Station 20 sets would be digital 8/18.

If it's 8/18 Digital station 20 set try Tom at sundance for a replacemant DSS. If your looking for overlays goto www.desi.com. They are the best at overlays for all telephones manfactures.

If it's the 8/16 station 10 sets, I thought the DSS was only used for programing in the 8/16 with no day alert. Just in the 24/64 was there a DSS for EXT's. I could photo copy the programing overlays and send them. I also have plent of the overlay stickers that go under the plastics. Just PM me for what you need.

Either way your going to have a hard time finding one. I have some but there's no way I could sell it

Good luck

I'm confused as well the part number for the 8/16 programmer is 73-160-0000/4, at least that's whats on the one I have in stock and yes it is for programming only. And yes there is a night option on that system.

I would rather make sure what system we are really talking about here though.

The system was purchased from Tandy (RadioShack)when they were marketing them. We had five phones and the DSS. The model number on the DSS is 83-051-0400/4. It's a 32 button with a display at the top. Two rows of 8 near center, two rows of 8 at the bottom. rls, tone, camp on, serial, day alert, night, mute & heads on the bottom row. I do have all the overlays. The unit stoped working and when I opened it up (because in the past if I would reset the ribbon cables it would work again) it looked like the two diodes got hot.

Hope the clarifies... we definately appreciate your help. Would anyone have a schematic?

PS... the model number is on a Telrad sticker. Stations were 20, 21 (is the DSS), 22, 23, 24 & 25.

Ok I found what your looking for. It's the 8/16 analog DSS. The old one with the Red LED lights display. That's the model Number on mine 83-051-0440/4. This unit is very rare. I don't think you will find one for sale. I think it's time to look into buying a new phone system or dealing without the DSS.

The one DTMF was talking about "8/16 programmer is 73-160-0000/4" is the 24/64 DSS but modified for the 8/16. That's why they stop making your model number.

Thank you!

I had it working (briefly) last night. There seems to be issues with the plastic ribbon type cable on the top board as well. Also the blue and black wires from the jack came off the bottom board before I could see what terminals they were attached to to. The R,Y,G & W are correctly placed but don't know where the BK & BL go.

Is there a way to set Day Alert from Station 20?
The rest we can do without until we get the chance to shop another system.

Thanks again.

I'm not going to know the wiring inside the DSS unit. Sorry. You can try to call forward the phone but I would have to look up the codes since that system has been discontinued for over 15 years now.

Thanks again. I have the unit working now, must have been a fractured solder joint on the board I went over all of them.

I'll have to figure out the blue and black wires from the RJ12. Trial & error I guess, each can go on only on one of 4 terminals (I think that's only 16 options!
