Fellow phone folk,

I'm in the process of restoring a couple of old 3M/Dynatel 965TD test sets, one of which will likely go to the local telephone museum. I've discovered, much to my disgust, that some of the configuration parameters are password-locked.

I've tried speaking to 3M about it, but I couldn't find anyone who would give me anything other than the metaphorical blank stare.

So: Has anyone ever figured out if there's a standard password? Or perhaps some way to reset the thing back to factory default?

Private messages are fine if this is knowledge that should not be allowed to escape to the wild. In other words, I'll keep what I find out in confidence if asked to.

Thanks much.

Sorry -

I checked my old paperwork (I thought I had something from Dynatel), but it was just some generic information about ROTLs and Priming.

What type of unit was the 965TD? I used to work at place that had some Dynatel T-1 testers (I don't remember the part #). It's possible they might still have the paperwork.

There are still many 965's and 965td's still in use today, even the old 745 (just because they were smaller and easier to carry)

releaseing the admin password may not be such a good idea, check with dynatel....

luckily you don't need a password for the ks (kick) meter.

I have been able to download 3M manuals for similar test equipment in pdf form. The customer service people at 3M were helpful in directing me to the proper places. I would try again, and ask for a head guy in engineering.

An alternative would be to do a Google search for 965TD's for sale privately. Perhaps a seller would be agreeable to photocopying the manual for a small fee.

Good luck.

Just one more thing.....All of the editing In a 965TD is done in Hexidecimal. It is very confusing and not for faint of heart. You can Render the entire box useless if you dont know what you are doing.I don't suggest trying it.I used to have all the Hexidecimal codes for doing it but threw them out years ago. 3M used to have it avail on their site...But its long gone. I programmed Mine to show my name and my favorite "slogan" when it fired up..."RAIN MEANS MONEY"
