Hi All, Had a customer ask me about intercoms the other day and I told him that I'd look into it for them. It is for a church and they are looking to supplement their tel. system. We had installed a DS2000 for them several years ago. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!!

Kind of confused here. Doesn't the tel system provide intercom?

Phone system in the church is probably full. And they likely don't want phones in as many spots as they want intercom. Just guessing.

Does a NEC DS2000 support a bunch of SLT's?

I once piped a trunk port of a switch into a 1A2 19 station Dial Intercom. I think I used a Melco because it offered Dial tone. I then took one of the Icm stations ("0") and backfed it into the PBX to access a line port so they could dial PBX extensions.

I did it for a non profit that was broke and needed to add phones.

I had planned on using ICM digit "9" to access a trunk port, but the organization used these lines for in-house only people.

I had tried to get a two channel unit, but couldn't get one for the right price (free).

It was a little funky, but it did the job.

The 2000 will support S/L phones. Without going to the manual, 2 in the basic system + up to 2 8-port cards. John C. (Not Garand)

Heck, find a Panasonic TD816 or TD1232. Center pair of each port supports analog phone. Basic 8 in an 816, 16 in a 1232. Just default the system. Stations are 101 to 108/116. NOW if they want to TIE (pun intended, NEC bought Nitsuko, who bought TIE) the 616/816/1232 to the DS2000 somehow.......... It can be done. S/L port of 1 system to trunk port of the other. Klunky, but has worked many times in many places. John C. (Not Garand)

DS2000 can have 24 S/L in 4 slot system, 56 in 8 slot system. There are 4 port and 8 port analog cards. And 16 port keyphone cards. Finally broke down and spun up a CD from August 7, 2003. Release 03.03.0 Obviously, 1 card in either system HAS to be a keyphone card, that explains the 24 limit in a 4-slot and 56 in an 8-slot cabinet. Not a hard system to program. Go for it. John C.
