2. Correct, the IVP8 won't work in a 96.
3. Correct, Amanda's are external units.
4. The existing VM should have the dongle on the parallel port, probably white and says "stratagy 6" on the bottom line. As long as you have the dongle, you should be able to reload the software and have it work.

The Stratagy Lite is an external voicemail so is the Amanda SoHo. Unplug the cords from the Lite, plug them into the SoHo.
The SoHo is dongleless, simple as pie to program and you can get a used SoHo converted to flash memory for $500, I don't know what could be a better deal.
You call into it, no laptop to carry along, no cable, no modem troubles. You have 3 greetings for each mailbox, and auto attendant [Dial 1 for sales, Dial 2 for service] and that is all you are looking for.
Make it complicated ONLY if you want to.
For people who want much more sophisticated software, buy something else but what you want is a glorified answering machine. I've made my best suggestion, others will have their best suggestion, your job is to pick something and be happy with it.
