Hi there, we have a Toshiba CTX system, and i have the WinAdmin, and Strategy ES Admin installed on a pc here.. Since we have the unified messaging most people listen to the messages on their computer, and thus have 800 Messages in their voice mail boxes...

I have set the purge date to 7 or 14 days in ES Admin, but it doesnt seem to do anything.. Is there a way to massivley purge thee boxes and keep them on say a 7 day retention?

Thank You.

In each mailbox there is a Purge messages in days tab, by default it set to 0, here is a description of message purge.

Whenever a user accesses his/her User ID and presses 1 to Play Messages, the system tells the user how many messages will be automatically deleted when he/she exits the Main Menu. This field is three-digits long. Once a message is deleted by purging, there is no way to retrieve it.

The purge time does not apply to new messages that have not been listened to. Use the continuous delete to delete blocks of messages at a time. There's a "delete on send" option in UM to delete a message from the mailbox after it sends it to the email server.

Thats what im afraid you would say.. All these thousands of unheard messages are on the phone, and i dont want to "delet after send" becuase if email or so is down bye bye messages. The delete blocks onlu goes by 50 at a time..

Why didnt they just make a purge ALL from the software...

reset the mailbox, or delete and rebuild

There is a setting to extend the number of messages deleted at on time. Actually the setting is in seconds I believe. At the moment I can not recall the actual name of it but it is in the system parameters.

The delete on send option should only delete the message after it is received by the mail server.

Other options are using outlook integtation software, or using IMAP which will supposedly check periodically to see if the message has been deleted from the email. I have never used that feature. I believe ver has to be 4.617 or higher (which also eliminated delete on send, but came back with 4.7)

I once deleted a fax box that had about 2000 messeges. It took quite a while to delete. Best option for that many is to rebuild as mentioned above.
