Hello all,
I have a CTX 670. I am running 7 external IP phones. I am having problems with bandwidth. I read somewhere that there are different codecs that the toshiba uses (G711 and G.729a). How can I tell and change which I am using. I cannot seem to find the option in eManager. Can someone help?

In the IPT section, under the extension tab there is a codec that says default g711.
You should be able to change it there.

a little more specific would be helpful... I've been looking and can not find it... In Emanager - which folder like Advanced/IP-telephony/BIPUconfiguration/ (this is not the correct location)

Sorry I was not more specific. One thing though. What makes you think it is the phone taking up the bandwidth. Even totally uncompressed its only about 80k per sec..

We are sharing a data T1 between 40 employees and the 7 external ip phones. My understanding is that the g711 uses 4x the bandwidth... I wanted to see what we were using and see if changing it helps clipping and echo... I'll let you know.
FYI - Our system was set to g711

if you want to monitor the rtp packet loss and jitter you can go to the ipt Qos tab under ip-telephony,
maybe run it before and after codec change to see what the difference is ...

There are also, Voip Traffic monitoring software that you can use to see that bottlenecking from end to end. We used these types of products when the provider said there was COS1 on connections to customer sites.

G711 is not 190k per sec. You need to re-look at that. The most it is 80 to 90k per sec. And take in consideration that not all 7 phones will be in use at the same time all the time.
