My company has the following:Toshiba DK280 digital phone system, 8 CO line ports, 20 digital DKT 2010SD desktop phones, Recptionist phone- DKT2020SD with DADM2020.

The phones themselves are designed with hands free capability- if you receive an intercom call you can answer without picking up the handset. "one" of my phones does not go off of speaker when you put the handset in the cradle- you continue on speaker with the handset in the cradle. It is not the phone itself because we have tried multiple other phones on this wall jack and they all do the same thing. If the user initiates the call with the handset off the cradle than it works properly- speaker is not enabled. But if the user receives a incoming intercom call they cannot get it off of speaker even when they put the handset back on the cradle. This problem must be within the original set up of the DK280 but I do not know where to start with fixing this one station.

I hope this has been clear. I am the owner of the business and am trying to fix the problem myself because my prior service company discontinued serviceing toshiba phone systems.

Recycle the power on the phone system and see if that clears the problem.

just to confirm- I took the 2 cabinet coverS off of the Strata DK280 system in my telephone closet- one of the units is identified as DKSUB-280A and the second is identified as DKSUE424A. One must be an expansion cabinet.

Both have a white toggle power switch. I am planning on coming before our normal opening time tomorrow and simply toggling the power switch to "off" on both cabinets, waiting for a minute or two and then powering them back up.

This is what you are advising, correct? I also have a PC running AVT voicemal software, not need to do anything with the vm, correct?

The DKSUB is the main cabinet. Flip the power only on that cabinet and the DKSUE424 cabinet will power off with it. No need to reboot the vmail.

I was really hoping the recycling of the power would fix the handsfree issue on this one extention. unfortunately it did not.

I know the "fix" will end up being something simple but hard to trace. What about the main operator phone- can individual extensions be programmed using this phone?

Any other suggestions you can think of? The problem of not being able to use the handset and not having the speaker activated is not the end of the world but it is something I would like to get resolved just for pride purposes smile

Why would you have the handset off hook if you are on speaker phone??

let me rephrase this- one of my phones does not go off of speaker when you pick up the handset- in other words the person using this phone is always on speaker when someone intercoms them- they should be on speaker when the initial intercom call comes in because it is a handsfree phone- but when the pick up the handset off of the base it should go off of speaker for privacy but it remains on speaker regardless of whether the handset is on the cradle or off hook- the other workers in that area can hear the conversation which is not always a good thing

I am more familiar with the newer Toshiba systems, but your decription of the problem does not look like the system is working the way it is supposed to work. I do not recall a setting that does not allow the called party to pickup the handset, and I don't see why there would be a setting for this.

So if it is not working as designed then the next step would be to see what is broken. You did the first important stp, try a good phone. My first guess with those older DKT-2000 phones is the hookswitch, which sometimes will not allouw you to go offhook and will sometimes hangup on people.

Since you said you tried multiple phones, looks like we can rule that out. So cycling the power will sometimes clear up strange problems. Check on that still, and not fixed.

The next thing I would try is to see if the PDKU card is at fault, either connecting the phone at that cable location to another port in the system, or swapping PDKU cards.

Unless I am wrong and there actually is a setting that forces an intercom call to stay on speaker, but that doesn't sound right to me.

IMHO this is the classic bad Hookswitch problem that so many of the DKT2000 phones had.

I first thought that it's a hookswitch problem too, but he said that he's tried swapping it out with other phones and the problem remains.
