I've got a stratagy IVP8 in a CTX100 that was installed a few years ago. I haven't been in the system for quite a while, but need to get in now and add a mailbox.
The old PC with serial port I used to use died some time back, so I am trying to access the unit with a USB to serial converter and the R4 admin program. I know I have the USB device on the correct COM port - but when I run the admin program and enter the password (default used) I get a response that the system is unable to connect to the modem?
The only thing I am doing different here is using a different PC with the USB-serial converter. The cable to the IVP8 is the same as I used before, and I am pretty sure I was using this install of the admin program (although I am not 100% sure what version I had on that old PC)
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what to check or perhaps a different approach...........before my nervous breakdown.
Thanks!

We have found that so many times, USB serial converter doesnt work. So we engineered a network voicemail programmer, it works everytime. Leave it on site for easy remote changes.

I found an older laptop with a regular com port, and also found that our company has the VM Manager software.
Will I have better luck with this setup?

Woe is me! I switched to a PC with a regular com port - tried a different cable - tried both R4ADMIN and VM Manager, and I still can't get connected to the Stratagy IVP8. I get a response of handshaking error on VM Manager, and a response of NO ECHO and NO GOOD OK on the R4ADMIN.
I am beginning to think the IVP8 has a problem. I have not tried rebooting the PBX yet- I suppose I can try that but will need to make a visit outside of business hours to do so....
I would like to hear from those of you with more experience on the IVP8. I have only done a couple of these....... is there any history of the prot failing on the VM? Does anyone think a reboot of the PBX might help?
All functions are currently working on the VM, but I do need to add a couple of mailboxes, and would like to set the VM to snch to the PBX for time.
All input appreciated!

Never had a problem connecting with Gold-x USB but just bought a ID-SC0211-S1 1PORT Industrial USB To RS232 Cable for $33 from Amazon because it has some sync that is missing from others, says my best/smartest/do anything guru.

Did you check the baud rate? I'm pretty sure the IVP8 baud is 57600.

Yes - I have tried different baud rates, and taken the USB-serial device completely out of the equation. Starting to think I may have a bad unit here....

IVP8 has a built-in soft modem. Have you tried to dial in with VM Manager?

I have VM Manager, but just treid it directly connecting to port 2 on IVP8. Is there a way to "call" the unit? I know there is a remote access capability for IVP8, but really didn't look at it very much..........

Is this a R1 or R2 IVP8 , The R2 you connect to com 1 on the card. What color is the front plate of the IVP8 ?
