We have the Starplus STS system. Recently added Caller ID. Incoming calls give the message "OUT OF AREA". Occasionally, if I dial from our Line 4 to the office it will show the number so I know it is working. I also know that the phones I have called from do not have caller-id blocked on them. I have programmed the Caller ID button have have Flash 56 set at ICLID-YES, NAME-NO (have tried YES), BAUD 4800, PORT-1. We also have SMDR with a printer set up at the KSU. It is using Port-1 and BAUD of 4800.

Not to sound like a smart a$#, but are you sure that name AND number are being delivered on these lines? Most phone companies are notorious for "what's on the records" not matching what's programmed in the switch. The story of my life...........
But that's another story.
If it's not too complicated for you to do, get a $9.99 caller ID unit at Wal*Mart and connect it to your main line (before it enters the phone system) and see what you receive on incoming calls. I think you will be surprised. Most issues like this are due to improper telco order-entry issues.
All of our technicians now carry these caller ID units for this very reason. It's a shame we have to go to these levels to prove that we are right and the phone company is wrong (they don't like to hear that and since they are bigger than we are and of course, the customer believes them).
What you have done in programming appears to be all that you should have to worry about, in fact, the baud rate, etc. doesn't even apply unless you are using an external CID unit. I can't imagine you would do that with an STS since the CO ports are already CID equipped.

Try putting a 653 key on one of the telephones. This will give you complete name and number Caller ID (if it is coming from telco).
To do: Speed Speed (pick a button) dial 653, you'll hear the confirmation tone after. Then push the button so it is lit. Make sure that the station you have programmed is in the incoming ring assignments then try calling in. When the call comes in the display will change from one line of CID to two and should give you the full info that you are looking for.

Chris:
Their original post indicated that they had programmed a 653 button with no effect. The fact that they are receiving "OUT OF AREA" indicates that they are on the correct "653 page" for the name. If it was a blank display, things would be different. I am pretty sure that "OUT OF AREA" is actually sent by the carrier when there is an absence of originating name data.
I still think it is a carrier issue here. With some CLEC's (AT&T comes to mind), they have a hard time delivering the end-user information. It is not because they can't do it, they just have a hard time getting someone to program the feature.

Sorry that I missed the orginal description with the caller ID button. Maybe setting the ring delay timer to 2 or 3 seconds will give enough time for the full info to come through.
Flash 40 button 5 (I think), Ring Delay timer, set from 00 to 02 or 03.

Thanks Chris. I do however have the ring delay timer set to 5 sec. I contacted Alltel yesterday and they are going to check the line. I should have an answer by tomorrow.

Originally posted by groundstart: the calls could be coming through a t1 line....... Your profile is not complete so I have no idea were you are or who gives you service. The key to CallerID is Signaling System 7 (SS7). Each inter office trunk group in a call has to use SS7. with all the CLECs and ILECs out there you only need one link in the call going to a non SS7 trunk group to lose the CID data. Calls from point A to point B do not always use the same trunk groups do to calling load between offices. This would cause an out-of-area part time.

Sorry RedTail but you lost me. Alltel is our service provider. I partially understand your message but do not know how to correct it. How do I know if something is going to a non SS7?
