The Xcelerator does SIP trunking, That is its Forte if i may. That is the best thing about it. If you are using POTS lines on it you will get frustrated i will tell you from personal experience. When using the POTS lines you get echo and hiss and all kinds of faxing problems.. I had worked with support on changing db levels for POTS lines to no avail and still had trouble.

I'm still using mine. If the Xcelerator is the only router the remote phones work just fine with DynDNS (no static IP). I currently have it behind another firewall/vpn appliance and the phone at my house works but 1 way audio. I work on it on occasion to learn VoIP/SIP stuff.
There was a SIP trunk provider that was offering free trial of SIP trunking with a phone number before you buy. But they went of business before I could place an order.

We have not ordered one yet to test---but I'm with you, Oobie, the design of the equipment is for 3 POTS lines--only for backup--in case the SIP trunking goes down. The lines really aren't meant for the main traffic, at all.
This info came just about a week or so ago from a talk that I had with Chris Beavers (sales rep??) for Vertical/Comdial.
In my opinion, that design limits its flexibility a bit---but when you go out and propose this system---I think you've got to have your "SIP trunking" hat on. If you're looking to make this just a 3 line 24 station key system--I don't think that it's designed to do that very well. JMHO

We have one in our office. We have a SIP trunk in it and it works really well. You need the latest software because the initial release system was not ready for prime time. Still has some things we don't like - answering multiple calls is a pain. We have remote phones that came right up (on AT&T DSL) and others that have one-way voice (AllTel DSL). I saw one of these systems in a construction office yesterday but I was not able to ask if they like the thing. A couple of my guys went to the Connections show and saw how the thing can work in some pretty unique ways with the new WAVE. We hooked it to our WAVE and can transfer calls around really well. Looks like it has some potential but we're not selling it yet.
