We have a Starplus STS phone system and, due to an increasing number of "spam" calls, I had my boss's Voice Mail number (10 digit) changed. Since that time, he has been unable to access his voice mail box from a flexible button at his station--he has to dial the long 10-digit number in order to access his messages.
I have tried the User Manual to set up his voice mail box, but have gotten totally confused, since I have no idea what some of the language means, i.e. VM location, VMID, etc. When I attempt to set this up by using the SPEED, SPEED and the Mailbox feature code or one of the 9000 numbers, I get a rapid busy signal.
I sure could use any help you can offer.

Thanks,
Christie

I'm no VM expert, but looks to me if it's on a flexable button you do speed, speed, feature code than the VMID number. So if you're doing speed , speed feature code and getting a deny tone than you may not have a flexible button or you're using the wrong feature code.

Thanks for your suggestions, Bill...I'm afraid I've tried them before and when I go to input the VMID, I am totally lost, since I have no idea what that means. It must be a 3-digit ID, since the rapid busy signal occurs right as I put in a 4th digit. I suppose those may have been assigned when the phone system was initially installed?

If the button on his phone has not been changed. Go to it, lift the handset, enter speed 7,#,2 than push the button this was on and see what it says, let us know what the button says it is.

Drat! I changed the button earlier today, thinking that if I erased the old info, I could input the new info. At this point it provides me with the Button number (05) followed by LCR.

Is there another phone that uses the button for the same thing?

This is the system voice mail we're talking about, right?

I think this is central office-based voice mail and the boss' private line's telephone number was changed, correct? I'm guessing that the previous button was set up for a speed bin to call the CO voice mail retrieval number, pause and then insert the message retrieval digits.

Just set up a new speed bin number (use one that isn't in use) between 9000 and 9019. Press the speed button twice, dial the bin number, dial the voice mail access number for your area, press the hold button three times (to insert a 6 second pause), then dial the digits of the boss' new number, followed by #. Press speed to end programming.

Then, press the speed button twice again, press the button you want to use for this, press speed and dial the bin number that you used to store it.

That will probably be all that is needed.
