This Norvergence fiasco just confirms my prejudice against companies that have weird names that don't give you a clue what they do. What happened to names like Bell Telephone, Edison Electric, Ford Motors, American Telephone and Telegraph, and Pennsylvania Railroad? Now its all companies like Whoopdidoodle, KubHUmbah, Oglefoos, Engertost and Emagicnation.
Not to mention Verizon.

Part of the problem is that these companies are trying to get a decent web-site name. We are trying to come up with a new name, since we have QUALIFIED IT guys that fix what the GEEK Squad can't, we put in residential sound and big screen LCD's, networking, cabling of all sorts, etc ad nasuem. That's in addition to being the recognized interconnect in town. (No bragg, just fact!) So, we are looking into a 'rebrand'. You know 'Telco DBA All Electronical'. (Any resemblence to any other company or companies name(s)is purely coincedental) So then we go checking Web names, and it's 'in use' or 'for sale'! I'm for capitalism as much as the next guy, but shouldn't names be 'in use', NOT 'for sale'? High $ rip-offs!  John C. (Not Garand)

Take a tip from the search engine optimization (SOE) experts: the best domain name contains one or more keywords and is hyphenated. You can also buy the unhyphenated version if you wish. Keywords are the words or phrases people most often type in Oogle when they are trying to buy what you sell. If you function in a limited geogaphic area, it is good to include a geographic term as a keyword. For instance, if you fix waffle irons in Hootervillle, try
Hooterville-Waffle-Irons.com
Get a good book on SOE from your local library or just Ooogle SOE.

Well...yeah...or just name your company Hooter and you will get 10,000,000 hits a day....except you won't have many for waffle iron repair.
Norvergence is a poisonous word around here. We are ESI dealers and got stuck with about 50 of these. Talk about a bad, bad deal all the way around. The system is a good system, it's just that the Norvergence company was all hype and no substance.
You can make a few bucks by installing the system in her home. Sell her on being able to answer the door from her phone. Hey...if nothing else, it has a kick-butt answering system.
