First, I'm not an NEC guy.
The user guide on the IPKII shows 8 user selectable ring tones. The user guide for the IPK does not. Question; Can I make IPK phones ring with a distinctive ring on incoming trunk calls on either a per phone or system wide basis? If so can you PM me the documentation on it? Mark

not really. there are different rings but they all sound kinda the same. i'll have to look it up for you so you can play with it to see how truely worthless this feature is on the ipk.

Chris, I'd appreciate that instruction if you can find it.
The situation is two Dr's sharing an office on 2 different IPK systems. The 2 recep people that answer calls in the same counter area want to be able to tell by the ring which Dr. the call is for. Very small office with 2 very different practices sharing the space. Even if there is only a small difference in sound it would help. Don't bother to ask why it's being done this way, I'm stuck with it. They each have there own system and they each want there own moved into the space they are going to share. Mark

if you have a features & specs manual look under distinctive ringing __________________________________________________
The Distinctive Ringing feature distinguishes between internal and incoming outside calls and provides distinct ring audible signals and patterns. System Software allows Distinctive Ring Patterns to be assigned per outside CO line or per telephone. General: Incoming outside and internal calls use flexible ringing tones and patterns. Distinctive ringing patterns are as follows: Internal ring tone has a pattern of 1 sec. On/2 sec. Off (default). Incoming CO/PBX outside calls are assigned synchronous ring. The ringing pattern connected from the exchange to the CO/PBX/Centrex lines is repeated at all stations assigned to ring, except for Single Line Telephones connected to ADA(2)-W Unit, AP(R)-R Unit, or APR-U Unit. When synchronous ringing is disabled, an incoming CO call can be assigned to ring at one pattern and an incoming PBX/Centrex call can ring at a different pattern. Incoming TIE/DID outside calls provide a distinctive ring pattern of 2 seconds ON/4 seconds OFF (system default). Incoming TIE/DID is 0.25 sec. ON/0.25 sec. OFF (default). AA transfer call is 0.5 sec. ON/0.5 sec. OFF (system default). _ DIT/ANA calls to stations also provide Distinctive Ringing (Synchronous ring pattern). _ Refer to the Electra Elite IPK Programming Manual for detailed in information about ringing patterns and ring tones. Restrictions: _ The transfer tone and pattern are used for the transferred calls regardless of the tone and pattern initially used by the trunk.
there is a pretty nice flowchart to follow along in the F&S manual including memory blocks.
here's some info in the chart: Determine Pattern by Trunk Type: M.B. 1-1-51 CO M.B. 1-1-52 PBX M.B. 1-1-53 Tie M.B. 1-1-54 DID M.B. 1-1-55 AA M.B. 1-1-34 Tie (individual) The ringing tone follows M.B. 3-07 and M.B. 4-91 determined by setting of M.B. 1-1-28.
here's a list of all the different memory blocks dealing with it:
CO Line Ringing Pattern Priority Selection 4-57 CO Line Ringing Pattern Selection for Telephone Mode 4-55 CO Line Ringing Pattern Selection for CO/PBX Line Mode 3-67 Synchronous Ringing Selection 1-1-59 Distinctive Ringing by Telephone or CO Selection 1-1-28 CO/PBX Ringing Variation Selection 3-07 Telephone Ringing Variation Selection 4-91 CO Line Ringing Pattern Selection 1-1-51 PBX Line Ringing Pattern Selection 1-1-52 Tie Line Delay Ring Pattern Selection 1-1-53 CO/PBX Incoming Ringing Alarm Time Selection 1-1-06 Tie Line Delay Ringing Time Selection 1-1-07 CO Transfer Ring Pattern Selection 1-1-13 CO Transfer Ring Tone Selection 1-1-14 Intercom Ring Tone Selection 1-2-20
the flowchart would really help you out. if you need it i can extract that page (or all the pages if needed) from the pdf & email it to you
