hello,

does anyone have an NEC ASPIRE installers configuration or users manual explaining each setting in the phone system?

i'm trying to configure VoIP from a remote office it works using VPN but i can't see that this is the only way to connect a remote office back to the main office.

i'm interested in looking at the explination of some of the setting in the phone system, i'm sure the NEC Technician are over looking something simple.

thank for your replies

On the Aspire, the only way to connect an NEC IP set is via a VPN. If you use a 3rd party SIP application (eg. X-lite)or set you will have to port forward a certain range of ports from the WAN directly to the gateway card(s) via your router or firewall. In the Sonicwall for example, under the "Firewall" tab, create a service with the range of ports and then apply/enable that rule in the "Access Rule" tab. You have to create at least 2 rules - one for the UDP packets going to the gateway card and one for the TCP packets (for signaling) that go to the CPU. We do this all the time with 3rd part SIP sets on the Aspire but it will not work with their proprietary sets - VPN only for those. The SIP sets act as glorified single line stations but will pass CID, Msg Waiting, ICM etc.
