Boy, there's a lot of stuff there--that also has just happened to me. February we installed a new DX-80 with 4 port flash. The first two lines are answered immediately by the VM..the other 3 lines on system are NH---being used for outgoing and also "special" lines that ring directly to certain phones.
First line had call forwarding on it from LEC TDSMetroCom --they came in with a frac T-1 and split off 5 lines for voice--the rest for the internet access of the customers computer network. The first day customer call forwards the first line to an answering service--but ALL lines got forwarded. After 2-3 weeks--they got it fixed, and I got them to take of "courtwsy burst." But on our equipment side---the VM 4 ports would become all busy. With my buttset in monitor mode on the first line I could hear background dial tone--then the VM says the 800 greeting...then stops---then dial tone. On my laptop hooked up to the VM, I could see the ports answering one by one. For 2 months we have programmed everthing we possibly could think of --both in the VM and in the phone system. Comdial sent a new CPU. Nothing seemed to help. Almost every day--betweeen 9:30 & 10:30---then about 1:20--to 1:45---I would get a call that the system was "locked up" Always--after they had canceled the call forwarding. A system reset would fix it until the next time. I finally caught it doing it when I had my buttset on line 1. A call would come in normal like--braaack-------braaaack. But this one rang in like this--braaack, braack, braack, braack,.. braack braack BRAACK----then the VM went crazy and all 4 ports began answering in sequence. The LEC sent a tech out and he replaced a module in the channel bank...and I replaced the DX-80 cabinet and CPU. It's been 2 days now. I hope it's over. The bad part is---I still don't know for sure what it was. Siemens switch at the CO. Comdial tech has said that they have had some trouble with Siemens switches/DX-80's on the East coast. I'm wondering if there is an earlier version of the main cabinet/mother board...that has a problem with Siemens switches. The LEC people will never admit to anything. They monitored the T-1 for a while but "everything was fine". One of the CO techs mentioned that there was a "modem" sound right after it rang our system--and he asked if that was a VM signal. I just sort of rolled my eyes and said "no--that's YOUR Caller ID data string."
Go figure.

This is another reason why I wont sell Comdial anymore.

The DX-80 is a Tawainese import and has so many bugs in the hardware its just plain silly.

It is possible that the CO may have had some kinf of Distinct ringing set up on the DN at the CO and didnt know it, also the DX-80 with its Hardware and Software roots from the cheap end of the far east, we will probably see many more problems with this cheap answer from Comdial for replacing the DSU series.

I havn't had any real hardware problems with the dx80. I think that with the software upgrades its become an excellent system, and for the price it can't be beat.
I also think that comdial isn't the only company manufacturing overseas. Don't let the 'made in USA' fool you. It just means that it was assembled in the US. Using foriegners in any business is the cheap way out for alot of companies that want to increase their profits. Its a shame, but its reality.

Answerring from a CLEC standpoint. If they are using a DMS, make sure option COD (Cutoff on Disconnect) is provisioned on the lines (normally sends 800ms Open Battery), if 5ESS make sure Special Feature 515 is turned on Office Wide. What type of channel bank if any does your LEC have at the prem. If a Adtran 600 series module, they have new Firmware where disconnect supervision can be lengthen the same way as Vina CBs can.

Also, the DX-80 / 120 is assembled in China, not Taiwan. Most of the ICC's you find in a DSU were made in Taiwan...
