What SST suggested would be the most economical. Most systems will let you dictate which phone has access to what lines. This would also give you other features like intercom, VM if wanted, restricted access and much more. So if expense is not an issue I'd go with a local dealer that knows what's going on and is reputable.

On the fax unless they get a lot of faxes or send a lot you could use a line share device and use it for an additional line also.

Something else to consider if selecting single and 2-line telephones is the total REN. If the phones put too much of a "load" on the line(s), you'll run into problems.

My thought would be to go with a commercial system of some sort and allocate the lines as desired.

REN shouldn't be a problem unless the sets are the old "2500" type phones. Modern phones that Warble instead of ringing don't have a high REN number.

Wow, I'm overwhelmed by the responses. I'm still very new to all of this, so I'm just dipping my toes into the water to try to learn a bit here and there.

I appreciate all of the responses, and have passed along the information to our project manager. Some of the issues seem easy to work out, while others not so much. This looks like something I would rather watch someone do for the first time and learn, rather than learning the hard way and making a mistake for myself.

The thing I would consider most important when doing single line telephones is line privacy. If needed, a small key system would be my choice.
