So, I downloaded firefox from the Mozilla website, but every page I try to find (including start.mozilla.org) comes back with the response "the web page could not be found, please check the address and try again." What am I doing wrong?

I have had that trouble in the past. My internet acceleration progam would cause it return that error. I solved it by going to "tool/options/general/connections" and selecting direct connection to the internet so that it by passed the proxy of ny internet accelerator.
