1) can you port a number to an efax service?
2) If not, is there a software or program that will allow you to connect a line to a PC so you can receive faxes on your PC.
Customer has a fax line that he wants to keep but does not want a fax machine, wants all faxes to go to his PC.

There are plenty of programs out there that allow you to send & receive faxed on you PC. One example These work very well.

ran across a customer (a construction general contractor that receives a lot of bid via fax) yesterday that had 3 faxes in hunt. I suggested a off-site fax service. They stated that wouldn't work because they didn;t want to have someone sit there and monitor email and print it all up. IS there a way for a fax server also act as a print server to a printer? Perhaps an offsite fax server delivering to a local printer? Note must be really cheap (of course)

Thanks guys. I'm probably gonna suggest MooreTel's link. Just need to make sure he has or is willing to buy a modem card.

A fax modem card is both cheap & easy to install. The reason I use the program above (as well as several of my clients) is that we got fed up with spam faxes eating into our profit margin by paper & ink.
With that program, or one like it, we can "See" on the PC screen what they are and delete them before printing. We can also print certain pages. For example, the invoice for my lines come by fax, with a cover page and usually a page of crapola at the end, so I can select just the actual pages I want.
The program also installs a "printer driver" so I can send from any program by hitting the print button and selecting that option. I got rid of my fax machine years ago and never looked back.

We use the Castelle Fax System via Modern Business Machines. Our machine has 4 ports so you can hook up 4 different fax machines. You tell the machines which lines you want to go to which IP address.
At the switchboard, we receive faxes for our main fax number. The operator opens the software and then opens each fax one by one. We then send them to the intended user.
It works real nice.

I subscribe to a fax service for 2 reasons. I can get the fax via e-mail wherever I am and the fax can stay on the service for future use.
The fax is sent to me in a pdf form.
BillFlippen : You can set your email to receive the fax in a fax folder, as I have, you can then filter out the fax and send it to the desired printer. I believe that outlook has that capability and Thunderbird has an add on called autoprint
The service costs me about $50 a year, includes an 800 number. It's cheaper than maintaining a separate fax line(s) and another machine on the desk.

great, didn;t realize that a rule in outlook would print it. I will play around with it to see if it would also print the attachment.
