Am I wrong, I thought Firefox was a GUI for IE. Don't hold back, I've been wrong before. (Twice today, already!)

Firefox is a non Microsoft product (no IE in it), and if I am not mistaken is an open source product like Unix.
I was always under the impression that it was started by the same people that created Netscape as an alternative to IE.
