Now that POS terminals are network compatible, has anyone got a solution for fax machines, etc that could work through the network (internet) in lieu of taking a phone line?

Sure, it's called "email".

a lot of people are going to fax servers. I know of a lot of other places that use a fax relay. a virtual number that converts your fax and sends it via email
I Swear I did not touch anything

Most any higher end fax machine these days will give you the option, after you scan the doc, to either send to an e-mail address or fax across a POTS line.
Did I ever mention that we are a Xerox dealer? LOL

Fax to email is very popular. Especially if it is network fax ready so evryone can share it and fax from their desk. I like the Xerox Phaser 3300MP and have sold several of them so far.

Thanks for the replies. Trouble is, the client doesn't want to email. His reasoning is solid. Fax numbers seldom change. Email address often do and without warning. ie: Company "A" says to send it to [email protected]. A little later on, Mary Jane is no longer there. No notice, no-one gets the email. If all companies used departmental names for this kind of "Fax Reception" such as [email protected] someone would be responsible for reading them & acting on them.

I think that most companies that lose "maryjane" still have someone who looks at the her e-mail.
We have "joe", "mick", "cherish", "dave" and "support"----all e-mails are seen by everyone else. All voicemails are seen by everyone, too.
Most companies that we deal with, have someone who checks most, if not all, e-mails.
Now, you're customer may have a point---but I'm wondering if they're worried about a very small potential problem. Just thinking.....

We just set up a customer that is using Vintalk SIP service and we set them up on their faxing service I believe is called VINFAX. All incoming faxes go to an email address (which is a distribution list of email addresses) and for outbound they can simply click print and choose internet fax or they can scan to the network and then click print fax. Works very nice and this particular placed loved the idea about using less paper and being green!!

I always thought the major reason for "FAX" vs email was because the govm't deemed Fax's and the signatures on them to be "real".
Such as, a signed document sent via fax is fine and a legally binding copy of the document, However a scanned document in an email printed off is not legally binding.
Atleast that was my understanding.
