Alright forgive me here, Im not the greatest pc/network guy. Just enough to be dangerous.
I just got a new Windows 7 laptop want to use the virtual XP mode to run my phone system admin programs. So I got it all set up and for the most part working however I cannot connect to a pbx on the LAN. I got the same admin program set up on both the windows 7 and the virtual XP machine. While on w7 I can connect, XP I cannot. I did some poking around the network connections on both machines and found that on the w7 machine the LAN connection is getting and 192.168.0.x LAN DHCP address, no problem. The XP machine is getting a 192.168.131.x address, so the problem is obvious. I tried setting a static IP on both, then just one side, then just the other side, all to no avail.
The question is, is there a way to make the virtual XP machine use the same LAN address as the w7 machine, or at least be on the same subnet?

You cant make them both the same address since their actually two different interfaces. By default NAT is active so you just need to go into the network settings for the virtual XP and bind the machine to the actual physical adapter and then it will use your DHCP server and get a valid LAN address.

I have actually had really good luck with dual booting XP/Win 7.

So far I absolutely love it. I work on mostly Toshiba systems and anyone who has any experience with eManager knows how fussy it is, turn off windows firewall, turn off pop-up blocker, turn off anti-virus, etc. This way I can have all that turned off on the XP mode and only used when I need it. When Im in W7 I can use all the protection without having to figure out ways to bypass it for certain programs.

Just did the same thing - created a VMware virtual box with XP Pro, and NetEmanager - works great!
And if you have a legitimate copy of Windows XP Pro laying around, absolutely free... just go online and download the free VMWare Player, it will create a virtual machine for you.
