Hi guys,

I have a VoiceGate VIP4000 integrated with a Norstar Meridian, and it works ok for the most part. The way it's set up now, is we get a call in to our Meridian which rings every phone in the building, and is No Answer Forwarded back to the first extension on the VIP4000.

What I want to know is why the VIP4000 doesn't answer the original ring? In other words, the first extension rings when someone calls our main number. (I've tested this by plugging another phone into the VIP4000's first extension jack, and it rings when I call the main line with my cell.)

Yet, it will answer calls forwarded to it. It just wont answer when the call first comes in.

Does anyone have any idea how to correct this?

Thanks.

System was set up that way so a live person could answer first. Its been a while since I've set up a Voicegate but in voice mail set up I think theres a timing or ring answer setting per line.

How are the lines assign to ring to the 1st voice mail extension? Delayed? If not check your Voicegate channel set-up.

Hi, the rings to answer is set to 2 rings. Like I said, it answers correctly when a call is transfered to it, or when calling it directly from another extension, just not from the main trunk ringing.

How do you set delayed ringing from an incoming line? I don't know where to check that in my config. :-S

Thanks.

You could do a test by putting a night service button on control set and see if Voice Mail answers the call.ext 21 or ext 221 was default control set.

As I can recall there is no adjustment on VIP4000 ports for number of rings less then 2.

You didnt mention if the co lines are ringing the
The voicemail ports directly.
I dont know the norstar that well ,but on toshiba you can ring the ports directly, then
adjust the rings on the VG to allow live answer
and then have the VG pick up between 1-99 rings
I,m thinking that the co lines should appear and ring the v/m ports
Good luck

Sorry to chime in a little late. Does your Norstar system have set relocation turned on? The reason I ask is the DN of the phone you plugged in to the 1st VIP4000 port is programmed to ring (you said all phones initially ring), while the original VIP DN is not.

Set relocation on the Norstar or the VIP4000? There is a feature in the VM system that will give a notification message if a persons ext has changed, but I'm not aware of any such feature being turned on in my Norstar.

What I do know is that when you move a phone to a different port, the ext number changes. I was able to verify this by using Feature-*-0 on the set attached to the VM extension, which read 249. (My VM ports are 249-252.)

This phone does certainly ring when acting as 249.

Jacktel, I don't really understand what that test would tell me... What's the difference between the night service answering and the day service answering? I only ask because at this point, I'm afraid I'm not really sure how to turn night service on. lol :-P

Kenb, what is "allow live answer"? Is that a separate setting found somewhere in my VIP config? I dont' remember seeing it before. I was under the impression a ring was a ring. But this could mess me up?
