I have a customer that currently has 10 business lines. They have dsl on 1 of them. They are adding 4 more lines. At what point would it be better to convert to a T1 and what are the pro's and con's. Thanks JBW

Price!! Excellent audio quality with a T. Keep the DSL as a standalone.

12 lines is about the break-even point for comparing the cost of a T-1. With T-1 you can get DID service. I agree with JWOOTEN about keeping the DSL seperate

CMDL is correct-- You need to have at least 12 lines before it is worth your wild.

Integrated T1 is another possibilty that often proves to be in the customer's best interest economics wise. Bring the lines and the data in through the T1 and drop the DSL. Just another option.

I would also suggest the integrated route. although I would shoot for PRI over a standard T1

Thanks for the suggestions. I will compare the pricing and see what the customer thinks about it. JBW

The pricing and break points on this will vary from state to state and different vendors. I have also found the point to be 10 to 12 lines. I use integrated T-1 services alot. PRI is a great service if the clients equipment can handle it. My 2 cents.

Thanks Spuds This is an older dk280 with r2 software so I will be limited as to my options. The cable feeding the building is about maxed out and BellSouth wants the customer to install a conduent for a larger cable. A T1 would alleviate this problem. Thanks JBW

A T-1 could be cost effective if you had six lines with outcalling salespeople on the phone all day or not cost effective if you had a dozen lines and almost no outgoing traffic.
The T-1 salesperson usually looks at the last couple bills and enters figures into a computer program that figures if it is cost effective or not.
When you do partial voice and partial data you have to add in the cost of a router such as the Adtran 3200 with a DSX-1 port, and that adds about $700.
