We have an ongoing problem trying to make Deltacomm PRI's work on Nortel MICS. They say it's us, sabatoging them, which is NOT true. But we seem to be able to successfully operate with ANY other carrier in the area, and literally disconnect from DC and connect to anybody else and it works! Or disconnect from anybody else and connect to DC and NO-GO! NO programming changes in either case. We've spent hours and dollars trying to get it to work! We feel they do NOT know what they are doing! Any comments? Anybody else having the same trouble? Got a fix? We would LOVE to say, "Program the frammitz to abcxyz and it will work"! and be right and exonerated! Obviously, they are saying we are sabotaging them and they are being semi-successful, at least in the short term, in convincing our customers of that. Then we call 'em out in front of the customer and they back down. But, this is getting OLD! Yeah, I know, it's their problem! But, at some point, it becomes our problem! John C. (Not Garand)

I know we have at least one PRI from Deltacom on a Norstar, no problems. What is happening?

What does DC say is happening at their end? What type of alarm are they receiving (Local, Remote, AIS)? It could be an improperly installed cross-connect somewhere between the MICS and the office where the DC PRI originates at. Even if DC throws up a loop at your end of the circuit and all alarms may clear at their side, doesn't rule out an improperly installed x-connect somewhere along the path. Since the DC PRI will not currently restore to service anyway, it doesn't hurt to try a temporary reversal of the transmit and receive pairs of DC's PRI, just to see if the PRI goes in-service. I've seen this happen first hand..overheard 2 techs sending errors both directions of a PRI along the entire path, and claimed the problem was at the customer's far-end system..I walked up to the DSX ports, installed a patch cable, rolled one side, and soon after calls were processing.
I'm not very familiar with MICS, or any weird history or special configs for Deltacom PRIs. If you want, we have the option of moving this discussion over to the Nortel forum to see if we can get a broader range of input in regards to the MICS.

Yeah-- we need facts not finger pointing. They need to tell you specifically what they are seeing, and what equipment you are connected to and what equipment they are testing with. Sample output if possible.
Please post back with that.

Well, the next time we try to make one work, I'll try to get what you all want. Trouble is, it happens every time we try it here in Fayetteville. Different customers, different parts of town, just Nortel. And like I said, we move from someone else's operating PRI to theirs and they can't make it go. They can make it go on P'sonic, and NEC, they just don't seem to know what to do with Nortel. And we can take our P'sonic test unit and hook to them and to other carrier (NO not at the same time) and both work! And we don't 'bill' ourselves as 'carriers', so we have no idea what they're apparently doing wrong! You'd think that if both PRI's work with ABC brand they'd both work with XYZ brand. And that's what you'd get for thinking! Nothing! Bah, Humbug, it's almost XMAS, and I'm going into my anual bad-mood period! John C. (Not Garand)

Nortel installer here...I have had numerous run-ins with Deltacom. The last one took 7 HOURS for them to figure out they had something configured wrong on their end. Whenever a client tells me they're thinking of switching to Detlacom, I advise otherwise.

We play a little fairer than D_O. We just give the proposed customer the name/contact of several UNHAPPY Deltacomm customers. Worse than 2 to 1, unhappy versus happy. TekOps, they "say" 5ESS. We think they are trying to emulate 5ESS with a softswitch of some sort. D_O, any opinions, on what they are using, Real 5ESS or softswitch emulating (Sort of) a 5ESS? I should say that I went thru the entire forum doing a search of NT and PRI, printed out everything I found and showed to the guys that are 'going bald'. They read it all and basically said either N/A or 'tried that'. John C. (Not Garand)
