If it is that important to someone then they will spend the money to get a backup generator. If I were you I would put your concerns in writing to whoever this "they" guy is and let him be the one to take the fall when it happens. Your butt is covered. You need a generator if it so important that you make and recieve calls. Let the "they" people decide what is important and not important. Other then that I wouldn't worry too much about it. That is the bottom line at this point.

Sounds like you need a generator, a 5-gallon can of gas, and a very long power cord. A 1K-watt generator would take care of most of what you need.
Plan B involves 2-3 pots lines dropped in and the good old fashioned wallphone strung throughout the building.
The bottom line is I'm sure the vendor isn't refunding your money. Unless you sue you are just going to have to live and learn. What I find funny is they have already spent $80K on the system, but wont spend another $1-2K to make it stay up in blackouts. Phones evidently aren't as critical as they seem if they will live with it.

If you know that service will be completely impacted by the next power outage, why roll the dice that a real emergency may occur and your phones can't be used to place a single call? At a minimum, go with Kumba's "Plan B".
This has to be a very painful lesson to learn just days or weeks after a cutover. Dave, thank you for posting and sharing this, and welcome to this board. Just in case it may have been overlooked during the cutover, it never hurts to place a quick test call to 911 thru the new VoIP system just to ensure that the call is correctly routing to your proper local emergency responders.
With exception to your service being obviously completely impacted by any scheduled/unscheduled power outages, will you share your opinions of any other aspects of your new VoIP System with us?
