I have a client who has an office in the US and a factory in China. Right now he has a local T1 (mixed phone/data on demand) and a T1 link to his factory in China for data.

Is it possible to have some of the channels on his China T1 switched to TIE lines for his phones (so he can avoid using the telco to place a call to his factory)? Of course, VOIP might be better anyway, especially with his dedicated link.

I don't know much about international TIE connectivity.

I have hooked up International Tie Lines, but never to China. E&M was available in Europe and if not some sort of Channel bank would probably handle your issues. China, 20 years ago had very limited telephone service, but I know they've been buying up old US Telecom equipment (I know two GTD-4600s went there).

I did have trouble once with a circuit to France where we had terrible problems getting the two switches to talk to each other. it turned out that the frequency/volume level of the foreign Dial Tone knocked out the equipment on our end. (we eventually had to attenuate the circuit and that did it.)

Moral of the story - Yes, it can probably be done, but don't expect an easy, seamless connection.

Will the Chinese Telecom allow VOIP?
