Your recever is trying to access a on-line server for the features that the Sattelite provider is offering, so this will go out through a different port on the router than normal internet

Could be. Not sure how to access it though. The regular menus don't offer any choices. Maybe there's a back door? I'll try digging around on the net.

Have you tried setting the receiver & router up using the instructions here?
Click on "Home Network" on the left, then "How to?" on the right to see:
1. Verify current subscription to a broadband Internet service. No dial-up service.
2. Verify a correct home network is set up by accessing the Internet using the existing home computer.
3. Connect the receiver to the home network using the appropriate existing home network equipment.
4. In the receiver's Installation menu, select Broadband Setup and then Network Setup.
5. If the IP Address lists all 0's, select Reset Connection. If the IP Address is listed, continue.
6. If the Connection Status is 'Not Connected', troubleshoot the home network. If the Connection Status is 'Connected Online', continue.
7. In the receiver's Setup menu, select Diagnostics and then Connection.
8. Installation is complete. Exit menus.

NOTE: If you click on " Home Network Install Guide" you will download a pdf that should help a great deal.

Bobby -

I've done all that. My IP address shows as 192.168 etc. The DHCP address is all 0's. Connected status is NOT. There's nothing wrong with the network. I can ping the receiver - It can't access the internet through the DSL Modem. Like I've said, I'm pretty sure the receiver is unable to access it because it lacks the PPOE driver.

I'm ready to give up on this.

your router seems to be handing out ip address but not dns addresses, check your router is acting as a dhcp server.

You have got to have a dhcp address or add the gateway to your receiver manually. The reciever will see your internal network without a gateway but will not be able to get to the internet.
On your home computer
Click start
then click run
type cmd and hit enter
at the command prompt type ipconfig /all and hit enter.
this will tell you what the gateway, dhcp, and dns servers are.
At this point make sure the receiver has the same settings for the gateway and dns servers.

PM me with the Ip configs and I can walk you through it if you can get into your receiver to manually add them.

Well, there was no place/way to add the data to the receiver but......

I THINK I GOT IT!

I found that if I edited "My profile" (which previously had been blank) and put in my User ID and password than the receiver still came up with the IP address of 192.168.1.45 but now, for the first time, it also showed a DHCP address of 192.168.1.1 (the address of the router) and it also shows the status as "Connected".

I haven't tested the connection because it's late and I'm tired but it looks like it'll work.

So what happened. I originally had a DSL Modem only (no router). It required me to have the PPOE driver AND Dial Up Networking (DUN). The DUN entered my logon name and password into the Verizon network. When Vz upgraded my service they sent me the wireless router. I never used it till the modem died and then I just plugged it in. It worked out of the box, so I never did anything but shut the wireless off. I never entered my logon. By entering them into the router's profile it apparently enters them for the receiver. I'll have to test it, but I can probably get rid of the DUN on my PCs.

What a PITA.

Thanks to everybody for the help.
