Most laptops nowadays are going to have the same features for the price. There are only a handful of actual hardware makers, so a lot of the componets are made by the same companies. I have used Dell exclusively for the last 6 years and I couldn't be happier. Mitch, you said they get a lot of complaints, but from whom? You also have to consider they sell more machines than anyone else, and by a wide margin, so you are more likely to hear about it. The biggest thing Dell has going is their great warranty support, and the warranty is transferrable, which is nice when you want to sell and upgrade. I just hooked SSPhone up with a new Dell, why don't you ask him how it is. And he got a complete care warranty that covers everything including accidental damage, for three years. don't get me wrong, Toshiba has a good product, as does IBM. I like Dell for it's built in com port. Something that seems to be lacking on other machines, as well as the high res. displays.

I'm using a dell lattitude (OS:windows 2000) for field work during my summer internship. I have no complaints at all. I'm not sure how familiar you all are with computers, but here's some tips for those who might be "Newbies" 1. If you use the internet on your computer, these 2 software items are a MUST: Anti-Virus, and Spyware eliminators. Run the programs at least once per week if accessing the internet weekly.
2. If you EVER download software from a source, even if it's a friend, use an Anti-virus program to check it out first.
3. Keep it simple. If your desktop picture is getting hard to see due to the multiple files on it, make a new folder (for example:I call mine "desktop stuff 08/11/04") & put all the items you don't access weekly in it, then move it to "MY Documents"
I'm sure more of you have other comments that might come in handy! Please share! Sidetone
