We've just upgraded a DX-80 w/4pt HD voice mail from F32 to A33. At the same time we added 2 private lines to the system & have them programmed to ring the extension and not go through the auto attend. The problem is that the caller is hearing 2 rings then a long pause, then ringing again. The end user is not hearing the 1st 2 rings, it does not start ringing the user's set until the 2nd set of rings. Any idea what's causing this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean but here's a shot. First there is no coordination of the ring audible the calling party hears from the telco and the ring at the called party's telephone. @nd caller ID is passed from the telco to you bettween the first and second ring pattern and the DX80 ignores the first ring so it can get caller ID info prior to starting to ring. This all happens wether you buy caller ID or not. Does that explain it? Mark

Yes, that's it. They do have caller ID. Should I shorten the CID ring time?

If one of the lines was added to line port 4 "743", then it may be that it is programmed for fax recognition; hence the delay in the ringing actually reaching the end user. Check to see if the problem is on line 4 and you will know to look for the fax recognition thing.

I just double checked their programming. The fax destination is set to "none" for ports 4, 8, 12 & 16.

I think I would save the programming and do a cold start and reload it at this point...sounds like something got tangled up going from 32 to 33.

You won't hurt anything doing Piffle's reload, and if there is a gremlin it might make it go away. I'm not convinced you have a problem. You will often hear a ring back tone or two before a phone actually starts ringing, and caller ID adds to that effect. If you shorten the caller ID time, you might get a ringing phone and no caller ID. Why is the current behavior a problem? Mark

I will try the cold restart to see if that resolves it. It's the long pause after the 1st 2 rings that's causing the problem. Callers are hanging up thinking the call is not going through. If they do stay on the line, then they will hear the ringing resume.
