Anybody ever hear of something called Voycall? I saw this phone at school, looks like a 554 wall phone but instead of a rotary dial there is a rotary switch with different 'extensions' listed.

Voycall is/was an intercom manufacturer, kinda like ITT/Terryphone, as if you hadn't figured that out. I've seen some of the equipment, but, FORTUNATELY, never had to work on any! I guess that proves there is a 'Big Guy' looking out for me! Thanks, 'Big Guy'! John C.

Aurthur, that makes me think of some of the equipment in the Thule Submarine Cablehead that nobody knew anything about! Occasionally, we'd here 2-3 rapid buzzes, but we figured it was working, because no one ever called from Tech Control to complain about the stuff. Well, maybe no one called, like I said we had no idea what it was or did! We knew what the J & K Mux did, We understood how the 43A1 TTY equipment worked, and the motor-generators, and the diesel powerplant, and the BAS that we didn't have clearance to touch, but fixed anyway (!), And the patch panels and the subcable power plants and, and, and. But those things never failed. (Or else they never worked, and the user didn't know who to call!) John C.

Yeah, I figured it was an intercom...but I never saw any other pieces of it. A car wash near me has a Terryphone system, still!

We hooked up to both the Autovon (Secure) and FTS (non-secure) Federal networks fairly regularly.

They were both termed CCSA (Common Control Switching Arrangement) Private networks. The Autovon had the Flash, Immediate, Priority and ....I think Flash Override keys on the TT pad.

For all the connections that I hooked up, I never met anyone who had ever used any of those other 4 keys. But I never moved in real deep circles.

Except once, almost.

We had a major switch upgrade set up (way in advance) for the GTD-4600 at one of the Air Force Bases down South (Griffiss?). We showed up to do it and were promptly shut down at the 11th hour. We were invading Panama that night and a lot of the planes were leaving from the base. The Base commander knew that it was never going to happen but for reasons of Security he kept the upgrade on the schedule.
