I've a Samsung DCS 816 with the 4 original Samsung handsets as installed. All of these however have appauling reception. If the volume is turned up they simply produce feedback. Any ideas?

Is this problem on the handset or speaker?Have they all done this at the same time or 1 by 1?Could be bad handsets.

All the phones seem to be the same, and I suspect they've always been like this. No one has ever said anything about it tho'. It's the handset that's so quiet.

I am installing a 816H and it is driving me crazy with almost all the sets giving me feedback and acting strange. Some sets the volume is so low on the line when you place a call you cannot hear the recipient talking, only barely.
On other sets as soon as you plug the phone into the wall they produce a loud and obnoxious screeching feedback.
Help!

How old are the phones? On the first issue of phones if the third digit of the serial number was a 1, you had to have the old 2 hole in the transmitter handsets.
All the black phones and the almond phones that don't have a 1 in the third digit of the serial number were of the 16 hole in the transmitter handsets. Looking at the serial number and the number of holes in the transmitter section of the will tell you if you have a mismatch of handset/phone base.
The other thing to be positive is the punchdown white/blue = green, blue/white = red, white/orange = black and orange/white = yellow. That is the first thing to check after the handset match check.
If you get the phone going crazy, ringing flashing making you crazy, you have the black and yellow reversed. If you have volume problems you may or may not have the green and red reversed.
If that is not it, you have bad phones or a bad KSU.
How do the calls sound on intercom with no dial tones? If intercom is fine and outside is horrible, try putting on a well filtered (quiet) 24 to 48 volt dc power supply on the CO pins. If you set it for no line privacy and you pick up the 48 volt line and it is clean, you have low dial tones. If you still can't hear on a CO with 48 vdc, you have bad phones or a bad ksu.
