We have the Prostar 816 and our phone service provides Caller ID. I seem to remember that there is a way to get the caller ID feature working, but I see no reference to it in the manual. Any ideas?
Thanks, Russ

I am not certain, and I am sure one of the Samsung experts will correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe that the Prostar 816 is CID capapble. You may have to look into running external CID boxes to each desk/phone if you really want to have CID. But again, I am not positive.

You are correct, it does not have caller ID. I have had to run external caller ID boxes to individual phones before. It was a pain.

Not only does it not have Caller ID it never will, it was manufacture discontinued years ago so we are sure there will be no further product development.

Thanks to all who responded.
So my choices are to get a new phone system or some sort of add-on after market piece or just forget it.

The 816 was a decent, reliable system that had/has a lot of bells and whistles for the price at the time.
Look at the cost of the caller ID addons if you are buying a new system.
The Samsung DCS Compact comes with CID software and a CID capable ROM card but you have to buy a MISC2 card to get Caller ID working. The next step up, the iDCS100 also requires a MISC card, thou a different one.
The Toshiba CTX 28 is a nice little system with Caller ID built in but has a max of 6 lines. The next step up, CTX 100 requires extra cards for CID.
The CICS Norstar system is purchased new with or without Caller ID dial tone cards.
Everything I know of new these days has caller ID capability, but what does it cost to make it operational is the question.

Thanks very much . I think we'll just be happy with our existing system.
