I am posting this in the hopes that it will benefit other techs. I had a heck of a time with this and could not find a clear explanation in any Samsung manuals. Tech Support wasn't as helpful as I had hoped either, though I did manage to figure it out while I had them on the phone...

1. MMC 206 – set barge in type to “with tone” or “without tone” as appropriate (check your local laws regarding wire tapping).
2. MMC 301 – set the COS (class of service) on each phone that will be monitored to 01
3. MMC 301 – set the COS (class of service) on each phone that will be a supervisor (can monitor other phones) to 02
4. MMC 301 – set the COS (class of service) on each phone that should not monitor or be monitored to 03 (these are usually the phones of executives that require their calls be private).
5. MMC 700 – copy from COS 01 to COS 02 and COS 03 (this step ensures that all of the features and settings are the same except for the things we are going to change in steps 6 & 7 (Not required if the system is in default state).
6. MMC 701 – set ‘Usable Feature’ # 55 (Secure) to NO for COS 01
7. MMC 701 – set ‘Usable Feature’ #38 (Override) to YES for COS 02
8. test the ‘barge-in’ feature

Notes:
*any deviation from these steps may cause ‘barge-in’ to not function
**The trunk class of service overrides changes to the station class of service. This means that if a trunk is in COS 01 and a station is in COS 02 the barge-in feature will work based on COS 01 even though the station is in COS 02.
***Station COS cascades from higher numbers to lower numbers; the higher COS number always has priority. This means that while a COS 02 station can barge in on a COS 01 station, the reverse is not true regardless of the actual settings within the COS itself.
****There is no feature code for ‘Barge-In’ by default, you must assign a button for this feature or the user must use the scroll and soft keys under the display. Alternatively you can assign a feature code for ‘Barge’ in MMC724

You should have posted here first. I've used the barge in feature and could have saved you a lot of time. That said.

Great post on Barge in info! :thumb:
Stuff like this should be on the Samsung website for dealers to view. You explained it to the tee. Nice job.

benb, I could have, and probably would have gotten a more accurate response than calling the "no help what-so-ever desk", but I was at the customer site and their 'nifty new feature' wasn't working, so I called Samsung instead wink

ahh gosh darn not having infinite time and abundant internet access when troubleshooting...lol

The Barge-in feature is a major source of confusion for Technicians. Thats why it is mentioned and discussed several times in the iDCS Basic training and 500 R2 Manual.

Of Course, I still forgot how to do it when the time came for my first real life application.

benb, thanks for the info. I'm just getting back into the world of samsung and things have changed greatly since early 2004.

Wrichey is getting me all caught up though.

Pete,

Thanks for the posting!!! It should also apply to the iDCS500. Basically the COS's should be set with the higher number (COS) having the greater (higher priority) COS options, like the old ROLM CBX.
