Hi
I know very little about telephony but I'm thinking about replacing our Samsung DCS Compact II system with a PC running Asterisk - and I was wondering if there's any way I can continue to use the existing wiring and handsets (mostly KPDCS-12B LCD). Obviously getting power to them is an issue but is the wiring and the protocol documented anywhere in the public domain? Since the DCS is a digital system I was hoping the `phones might be IP compliant and that an RJ11 to RJ45 conversion might be possible...?
Thanks to anyone who might have a clue about this!

The only thing you could use from the Samsung System would be the handsets. Everything else is proprietary to Samsung. Note... I said handsets, not keysets.

Wait a minute. You're talking TDM Digital (1 Pair) to IP. All the wiring will need to be changed 4 pair Cat 5e or 6, plus all the power requirements for the phones or POE.

Many thanks Marc and Phonman - sounds like I'd have to junk the whole system. Shame I can't even use the wiring.

The only thing I see that you can is to upgrade to a OS100. That way you can keep you digital keysets and some of the cards add IP to that system. You inhouse will be digital and external can be IP keysets.

Why by the way would you replace a 5 9 system with an Astrix (5 8 system) it does not make sense.

Just curious
