You can send to yahoo, gmail and hotmail accounts, but you cannot send through these mail hosts.

I'm not sure why everyone is having so many problems with the e-mail gateway. If your customer has high speed internet, most ISP's will provide you with a FREE e-mail account and most ISP's have SMTP servers. Even if your customer has their own domain, you do not need to send through their mail server… you can use any SMTP server.

For the e-mail gateway to work, the voicemail only needs to send the e-mail to an SMTP server. Setting up this feature does not require the opening of any ports in firewalls.

We had software issues with timing out when sending to some ISP's SMTP servers down here Marc, not sure if you guys got the same versions over there or not.

At the time, a temp fix was to bounce it via an SMTP gateway like the Sleepwalker proxy then out to the ISP's servers.

Cheers, Dave.

Marc,

Here is a scenario that I have at my bench. I have a 7200 with a dsl. The dsl is through ATT. I have an email setup with them, but in order to access it, I have to goto yahoo mail and login with my att cred. ATT uses yahoo mail, and the VM keeps saying " connect to server timed out" I am running 4.30i, don't know if there were any issues with this or not.

Contact AT&T and ask them for information regarding their SMTP servers. It's the same as setting up Outlook on a PC... you need to enter a valid SMTP server to send the mail. There is one caveat... you must use IP address... you cannot use the domain name for the Server.

Checkout this article regarding setting up Outlook on AT&T DSL. I didn't read the entire article, but it looks like what you need.

Ironhedz,

After reading the above article, I think you will get it to work if you do the following:

For Host ID, use the IP address 66.196.96.87. (I got the IP address by pinging smtp.att.yahoo.com.)

For Port, use 465.

For SMTP User ID, use your full e-mail address.

For Password, use your password.

IMPORTANT: For Domain use whatever follows the @ in your e-mail address... most likely yahoo.com.

You need to do this in BOTH System Wide Parameters and MClass.

After making the correct additions to your subscriber, go Port Activity and watch what happens.

Marc,

I just tried what you suggested. I get "SMTP Connect to Server 66.196.96.87:465 failed. ReplyCode -1"
cannot find what this reply code means anywhere.
The email address is something like this [email protected] - any more suggestions. Thanks

Change the Domain field in both System Wide Parameters and MClass to sbcglobal.net.

Ironhedz,

Okay... I got it to work for you using the e-mail and password you sent me via PM. Even though AT&T says you need to use port 465, it doesn't work. I changed it back to port 25 and it works.

Try making that change and let me know.

Marc, were you using AT&T in your test? Most ISP's down here block port 25 for anyone other than thier own SMTP servers.
