Exactly what future would that be??
The customer wanted giga speed and the cat5e supplied it at a lower cost (you know all about that right) cat6 is just the middle man before fiber and at this rate almost the same price so what would the future be Nate?

"Cat6 - The solution in search of a problem." is how some in the cabling industry characterize it.
It's an interesting question. Since properly installed 5e can handle Gigabit, and the currently installed Cat6 base isn't expected to be able to handle 10G, what is the customer really getting for that extra cost?
Sure, you gain a bit more headroom with cat6, the network may be a bit more robust, etc. Does that translate into more value for the average user? I don't know that it does, especially with so few actually running Gigabit to the desktop.
The question is whether manufacturers will phase out 5e solutions before the Augmented Cat6 standard is ratified, and 10G products become widely available. If they don't, then I expect many customers will skip right over cat6.

You'll have to excuse geeky---sometimes he engages his mouth before his brain is started up. But his comments always seem to spark a debate---& I guess that's not bad. That's how we ALL learn.

No its not bad.
upstate thanks for making that clear to those who needed it. I think that cat6 either needs to go away or come down in price and your right not many users can or will do a gig in data transfer.
The ones that get me almost always say "when I get my t1 or dsl I will need the network to go just as fast" LOL
